Poland vs. Italy – 11 November at the new stadium

Stadium

It’s now official: on Friday 11 November, Poland’s national football team will play against Italy in Wrocław at the new stadium built for the UEFA Euro 2012 TM.

The news was confirmed by the PZPN [Polish Football Association] spokesperson, Agnieszka Olejkowska. – It is too early to talk about the details, as we have only just signed the contract – she underlined. – This game will surely attract many fans and the stadium will be full, because the Italians are known to be outstanding players – said Janusz Sybis, the legendary Śląsk’s forward, who scored one of his two goals for the team during the friendly match with Italy in 1980, and three years earlier played in WKS’s colours against the Italian Napoli during the quarterfinals of the Cup Winners’ Cup.

Let us remind you that Italy is the world champion from 2006. They played against Poland 15 times, with 6 defeats, 3 victories and 6 drawn matches. Both teams competed for example in the World Cup semi-final in 1982. Back then, the Azzurri proved better and won 2:0. At present Italy is the 8th team in the world.

Additionally, the Polish national team, which is preparing for the UEFA EURO 2012 TM finals, will play two friendly matches in September: against Mexico on 2 September in Warsaw and against Germany on 6 September in Gdańsk. Recently the team also played in Lower Silesia, when on 10 August they defeated Georgia 1:0 in Lubin.
