Ryanair’s boss puts up a show in Wrocław

City news

- Thousands of Irish football fans will come to Wrocław for Euro 2012 – assured Michael O’Leary in Wrocław today. He is the controversial boss of Ryanair, whose short visit was connected with the opening of the first Polish base of his airline in the capital of Lower Silesia.

O'Leary confirmed that the base will officially start operating in march, although in the beginning, he jokingly stated that it will not open at all. This is when the passengers will also be able to fly from Wrocław to Malmo, Venice-Treviso, Paris-Beauvais, Bournemouth, as well as to Malta and Crete Chania, totalling 22 European cities. During the year, the carrier will initiate flights to yet another six destinations, as, according to plans, two aeroplanes are supposed to be permanently based in Wrocław. However, O’Leary was hesitant to confirm that. – It might happen in 2013, as it all depends on the progress of negotiations and the generosity of the airport authorities – he said playfully.

The journalists could also witness a real show by the controversial Irishman, which lasted for over an hour. The repertoire included posing for photographs in a t-shirt of the Polish national team, brandishing a model of a Ryanair plane and a teddy bear, trying on the airport staff’s hats, marching on the conference room table, making faces, of which even Witkacy wouldn’t be ashamed, and saying a plethora of jokes characterised by various levels of ambiguity. One of the jokes: - Lipstick is treated by airport staff as if it were a weapon of mass-destruction , while it is nothing more than just a weapon of men's destruction.
Ryanair also informed that it is planning to serve up to 800 thousand passengers in Wrocław in 2012.
